Our first major station precinct development, at Glen Waverley, won the Plan to Place Award from the Planning Institute of Australia (PIA) in October 2014, and the national award for Government Leadership at the Property Council of Australia’s (PCA) Innovation and Excellence Awards in June 2016.
We transformed Glen Waverley’s station precinct to make it more secure, accessible and appealing for commuters and the community, using $1.8 million of proceeds from the IKON Glen Waverley development.
The works included constructing:
- an improved station forecourt and public seating
- a new entrance canopy
- improved accessible ramps and walkways
- a new kiosk
The IKON development is an example of the benefits that transport-oriented development projects provide. Built by Consolidated Properties, it includes 116 apartments, nine offices as well as ground floor commercial and retail space on the doorstep of public transport. All offices and apartments in the building sold out off-the-plan prior to launch.
Thanks to the development and the station precinct works, the area around Glen Waverley Station is now an attractive place for local people and commuters to visit.
The inclusion of shops, restaurants and cafes into the station precinct give people a place to meet or spend time in while they wait for their bus or train.
The final touch to the revitalisation of the station forecourt is an urban art installation by Mayfield Palace. We carried out a public vote to decide which artwork would be used to create the installation.
