Castlemaine goods shed

As part of our role in preserving the state’s rail assets, we managed works to transform Castlemaine's heritage-listed goods shed into a new home for Victoria’s premier regional arts festival, the Castlemaine State Festival.

The festival uses the building as their headquarters which include administrative offices and performance spaces.

In early 2016, the Castlemaine Circus began using the spacious performance spaces for their regular classes, which are offered to people of all ages and abilities.

Getting the building restored and refurbished ready for its new lease of life required considerable structural works.

They included installing new fire and electrical services, repainting the brickwork, constructing a new main entrance and stairs, and replacing the roof, skylights, gutters and downpipes.

The 150 year old building was also fitted out with a kitchenette and new balustrade fence along the platform, and all abilities ramps and accessible toilets.
